For the sketch I did the introduction and then the how to stay safe and have fun during COVID station.

Introduction:

  • Students will be gathered in the auditorium/gymnasium

  • The person facilitating the event begin a conversation like this:

Teacher:

“Hi all elementary schoolers! Welcome to the COVID-19 info day. Today we will rotate around to different stations to learn about COVID-19 and the how it has changed all of our lives. Before we do that, let’s talk about some of the things you already know about COVID-19 that you discussed with your class last week. This can be anything you have heard about COVID-19, how your lives have changed, and if you know of any ways to stay safe. Raise your hand if you want to share.”

Students:

Answer to the group

Teacher:

“Those are all really good ideas. Thank you for sharing! I know that you all have noticed different things like your parents or guardians staying home. This is because of COVID-19. COVID-19 means coronavirus disease 2019. Coronavirus is the virus that creates the disease COVID-19. The 19 means 2019 when the disease was discovered so it is a new germ. Germs are very small and can fly through the air and make us sick. Some help us and some hurt us. There are some good germs, like those that live in our stomach and help us digest food, but COVID-19 is a bad one.

When the Coronavirus germ enters the body, you can get COVID-19. Most people get a little sick, like a normal cold with a fever and stomachache. Some don’t get sick at all, but a few people get really sick. We are all working to keep you safe.

There are some really good things people do to keep safe that you may have noticed. Today we will learn about why distancing, mask-wearing, and staying home if you are sick works to help people not get sick. Before stations we will watch a short video about how to stay safe during the pandemic.”

  • Show a video about COVID-19 and how to keep people safe

  •  Separate into small groups and begin stations aiming for about 10 minutes per station.

Station for brainstorming fun COVID-19 safe activities:

Station Leader:

“I know that you all have noticed the many changes that the pandemic has brought to your lives. What are the challenges that have come up in the past year?

Students:

Answer, maybe talk about not seeing family, online school, limited friend time, etc.

Station Leader:

(pulling out large pad of paper)

“What are the ways that you have been able to have fun this past year? Let’s brainstorm some ideas”

Students: Respond

Station Leaders:

Look for ideas like video chatting friends, go for a bike ride outside, go for a walk, see if you can play outside with friends distanced, take your dog for a walk, play video games with your friends on the phone at the same time, go on a scavenger hunt, pass with a ball, use hand sanitizer and wear a mask and then play catch with a neighbor, do some arts and crafts, take the dog for a walk, learn how to cook etc.

Write these ideas down and see if they have any other things to add.

“Thank you so much for coming to the station. Hopefully you can all remember some of these really fun ideas you came up with and try them at home. In case you forget, the paper with the ideas will be moved to your classroom and we made a bookmark with some of the ideas that you can grab on the way to the next station!”

Give them a bookmark and move to the next station.
