Reflection

This was a really interesting experiment. I thought that it would be really easy, but I ended up having more challenges than anticipated. I think that baseline I know how to write an email, but the way I learned that was not through an infographic, it was by writing emails and being critiqued over time. I think that it is was difficult to try and encompass all of the different nuances of email writing into an extremely brief infographic. I think that if I chose to fully realize this experiment, having the three-pronged approach of having the infographic, sample email of the organization, and the corrected email would help give a clearer picture to the viewer. I think that the thought behind it was decent, and it is an important topic, but the final project seemed moderately subpar. I spend a lot of time trying to make the experiment look pretty professional, choosing the correct outline, trying to find a color scheme that wasn’t super boring workplace style or too pastel, picking the right font, and trying to find good images, but I’m not satisfied with the final product. I think that I really could’ve benefited from having some more discussion with peers once I got to making some of the art/stylistic choices, because that is something that I don’t have a background in. I do think that I would choose some better pictures and things with guidance, but it is ok for this experiment and I definitely learned a lot. I also think it would be helpful if this was designed for a specific kind of email. I feel like the style differs a significant amount if you are asking a boss/manager for something, writing a research inquiry, etc., and it is difficult to have a set infographic that would encompass all of those things in one. Because of that lack of specific email in mind, I pretty much realized once I was really far into the experiment that it was generic and not specific enough to give a lot of helpful information. If I did this over, I could make a few infographics or organization style for different types of email. If I had more time I would also consider adding some type of theme/character throughout that would be giving helpful hints (this could’ve been a cowboy lassoing words and saying how to correct them, or if it was for children maybe a superhero type character) but was not sure what sort of character would resonate well here and how to incorporate it.
