Reflection

I really like this experiment, it seemed lighthearted in a way, probably because I had to frame the pandemic in a nicer way for children. Eileen gave me a website for lesson planning that helped develop the genre research from the people who make the science standards for elementary education. I think that it was definitely challenging and I need to work on a) creativity and b) how to frame it for children. Overall, I think I gained more respect for teaching and the preparation that goes into lessons. I would maybe like to add more multimodal aspects of the experiment with a common mascot throughout. This could have a hero like Smokey the bear or in this case it could be a superhero that wears a mask that would be on the bookmarks and stickers. I also think that it would be fun if I had more time to explore Canva and the different styles of multimodal fun things, or a dos/don’ts game with COVID-19 safety. I think that in a lot of ways this seemed easier than my first experiment, probably because for that one I was focused on conveying my own feelings and had a lot more first person type style writing I wasn’t used to. Here, it is almost like writing how I would personally talk to kids I babysit about COVID-19. Also, I had to leave blanks here for students’ responses which felt somewhat unnatural, but in a lesson plan you never know what kids will come up with either so I think it is ok. I think that this experiment was pretty fun to do and definitely didn’t feel as emotionally/mentally taxing as the previous one.
